Sculpeylicious.

YES, I HOTLINK THE INTERNETS, HOHO
Okay, so I've been wanting to try out Sculpey for a very long time now (although I probably suck at modeling, but I can model potatoes and lumps of ...stuff or something XD).
But it's near impossible to get it in any store in Germany. D8 My friend found a website selling it and I just ordered 2 "Super Sculpey CE Living Doll" thingers, each weighing almost half a kilo. XD I had to pay $48 (in-country shipping cost was like $9 wtf).
Sooo @_@ What does Sculpey cost in the US, anyway? Do you think it would be cheaper if I ordered it from the US? (Though the shipping costs to Germany might be outrageous 8D;)
And has anyone got advice for me how to use it? XDD (I already got wire like 6 months back, yay! XDDDD)

Sculpey is pricier, but I think you can get a pound brick of white for $10, $12 American. Smaller chunks of colors generally run $3-5. The shipping would probably cost about the same. I can export it to you, if you want. XD I'll have to hit up the stores and see where the cheapest sculpey is.

hmmmm, $10-12 is indeed cheaper, then again those things aren't lightweight and the shipping cost would probably add up to about the same price XDDD

I can export it to you, if you want. XD
Awww that's sweet XD ♥ but I'll first look if I can handle this stuff at all, then later I'll have a look at foreign sellers and stuff XD who knows, maybe there's a bargain to be made!

XD

I got mine for probably less than $5 from Hobby Lobby. dickblick.com sells it as well for $7.48/lb.

Sculpey is really fun to pick up. I didn't think I'd be any good at modeling, but your stuff doesn't have to be incredibly realistic or anything, and Sculpey never dries out so you can work on it until it's perfect for you. There is a bit of a learning curve, though, when you go from 2-D drawing to 3-D modeling :B

I know, I'm super excited to try it out, I haven't done anything REMOTELY like modeling since... I had to do a clay vase in 8th grade? XDDD Hahaha, okay, more like NEVER.

*stumbled over randomly from your DA journal and thought this might help >.>;;*

You might want to see if stores near you carry Fimo. It should be pretty easy to find in Germany, and it's very similar to Sculpey (I have yet to see anything suggesting that one is better than the other; Sculpey is mentioned more online just because it's the popular brand in the US).

I can get a small block of Fimo for AU$2, so it would definitely be worth checking around for a local art store that carries it. I can't imagine buying modelling clay from overseas - the shipping would be absolutely insane =_=

Advice: Make sure you roll it around and let it warm up a bit in your hands before you do anything with it, since it will be much more pliable to work with, and will be less brittle when it cures.

Also, if you decide to go multimedia (sculpting elf ears onto dolls, or adding octopus tentacles onto My Little Ponies, or whatever) and you're worried about the non-clay parts melting in the oven, you can submerge it into boiling water for ten minutes or so to cure it, instead of baking it.

Hope this helps ^_^

Oh, Fimo! I remember using that as a kid with my mom to make really horrible jewelry. XDDD No idea what it costs here these days (nor do I remember what it cost back then 8D;;; ), I'll have to check on that. XD

That submerging into hot water thing is interesting, I've never heard of that. :000 Thanks for the advice! ♥
