lol Star Trek

So, I was the last person on Earth to see the new Star Trek movie. XDDD Here's my selective opinion on it (because I always forget major points anyway XD).
I was a bit afraid because of JJ Abrams and all that, you know. (I really hated Cloverfield >_>) But I was pleasantly surprised. 8D

First off, it was really FUN to watch. 8D Really kept my interest up all the way through.
I loved the Romulan ship design! Although the Romulans themselves confused me, I know they have the same ancestors as the Vulcans, but they really looked like tattooed Vulcans. 8D;; (the main baddie had Mulder's voice in the German dub olololol)
The space scenes were awesome @-@ really neat CGI. Maybe a BIT much fake lensflare in the first half. XDDD The whole new parallel universe/time travel thing was a bit obscure, but maybe that's because I was tired. 8D;

About the characters, I really liked their representations overall. Lol, Chekov was awesome (although I thought they overdid him a little). I think they could've toned down that young-Kirk-was-such-a-daredevil-omg, because it just seemed stupid to me. XD; But Kirk was better once he was on the Enterprise. Paul McGillion as Scotty would've been so much more fitting, but oh well. XD
Uhura was really empathic (ollolol), but that's sorta fitting I guess, and Quinto as Spock was pretty awesome, I must admit. And Leonard Nimoy had a bigger role than I thought!

BUT. Spock/Uhura? XD REALLY? Come on. It was sweet and I guess okay if you haven't seen TOS at all. Because this doesn't really fit. But if you just see it as non-sorta-half-canon, it's still fun. XD I can deal with that.

What did you guys think? 8D

lol I have not seen the movie yet and over saturation has kindof turned me off to it. And then I found out about Spock/Uhura and idk if I can get past the dirty squick feeling now.

Ahaha XDD the lensflares become less later on, fortunately XDD It was a bit overdone, but eventually I was so engaged in the movie that I didn't mind/notice anymore. XD

The Spock/Uhura thing, ahhahaha. Idk, I just can't take it seriously and that's it. I was like "yah whatever lol" and just took it like a weird fanfiction idea or something. But the movie was still neat to watch. XD You shouldn't invest your Trekkie heart into it and take it as canon, but still fun.

lol by oversaturation I meant by the media and my friends not being able to stop talking about it XD

The whole movie kindof strikes me as a fanfic writer's dream come true.

btw, the Kirk/Uhura thing isn't really squicky at all, it's really... clean and cold. 8D; they kiss twice; the first time she does it to comfort him and he doesn't really...even respond (I could even live with that if it were canon, since there was basically no reaction). The second time when they were standing there with Kirk to be beamed down from the ship. Again, it just felt like a really random addition. 8D; And didn't seem passionate at all.

I didn't realize JJ Abrams was behind Cloverfield. I had avoided that movie, didn't really interest me.

Spock/Uhura had surprised me but I guess with Vulcan gone now, it's not like they can have Spock have to go through mating rituals with another Vulcan and they need to leave Kirk open to be the ship's casanova.

I watched Cloverfield because the viral marketing for it was rather awesome and I was expecting some epic monster stuff.
Turns out the whole movie is about a bunch of whiny movies and a shaky-ass camera. You see the monster for about 4 seconds. Yawwwwwwwn

Hay thar!

I posted my thoughts on the movie on my journal, have a read if you're so inclined...
Briefly though, Romulans do have pointy ears and eyebrows like Vulcans.. but they have prominent browridges too.. which wasn't so obvious in the movie.

I started to protest about Uhura and Spock to my stepmum, but she says that apparently it's canon and that they were really into each other in the original series.. :0

Chekov was hilarious! He was played by a real Russian dude.. but his crazy accent is a touch mistifying; I have a Russian accent and I assure you.. I can pronounce the letter 'v' perfectly fine! XD

Lawl,
Good movie though, wasn't it?
I partly agree with you about Scotty.

Yeah, I read it! XDD I agree that Nero didn't have enough screen time. It would've been nice to get to know more about the character's motives other than "OMFG REVENGE!!1" (because that black/white, bad/good thing happens very easily with these movies, a bit of differentiation would have been nice)

And yeah, it was really fun. XDD

W00t!

Aye, I've been told that the official tie-in comic book has much more information on his character. ;3
Yeah.. it really felt that there could have been more than just revenge that his loved one died, but that's all they decided to discuss.. Also, the cliche of going on a revenge rampage because of such a death is really growing old. :3

I'm so looking forward to the dvd.

Yesss! A friend of mine who read it told me to go read it for back story. XDD
Vigilante justice (which is really not what Roddenberry was all for *lol*) is really an idiotic plot point, but anyway, gonna have to read that comic myself to learn more about the story. XD But I hope they get a bit more of the equality/peace side of Star Trek into the next movie. 8D;

First off, it was really FUN to watch. 8D

trufax!

UND BEI CHEKOV HAB ICH GAR NICHT GEMERKT DASS ICH DEN SCHAUSPIELER KANNTE! lol wie peinlich. Ich hab nämlich Charlie Bartlett vor einiger Zeit im Kino gesehen (eigentlich wegen robert downey jr.) und mir ist nicht aufgefallen, dass das der gleiche ist. AHAHA 8D;;;

Oberkörperfreies Männer Gekämpfe: DO WANT! Hoffentlich wird der Film ein Holmes/Watson Slashfest anstoßen, ich mein Robert Downey Jr UND Jude Law? SEXY OVERLOAD 8DD

OH GOTT, DEN TRAILER HATTE ICH NOCH GAR NICHT GESEHEN.

...OH GOTT.

XD;;;;;;;;
Ja okay, wie Sherlock Holmes sieht es wirklich nicht aus. 8D;;; Es sieht eher aus wie 'ne neue, "coole" Steampunk-Action-Version davon. 8D; Jude Law sieht sogar einigermaßen wie Watson auch (wo er doch jetzt eh 'ne Glatze kriegt XDD), aber die Charakterisierungen passen nicht. 8D;;;;;
WATSON SCHLÄGT KEINE TÜREN EIN
SHERLOCK HOLMES HAT KEINEN SEX
UND LÄSST SICH ERST RECHT NICHT ANS BETT FESSELN

SO IST DAS.
XDDD

VIELLEICHT BESSER.)

Hast du eigentlich mal Jekyll vom Moff Meister gesehen?

JA 8D;;;; "SEXY ROBERT DOWNEY JR VERPRÜGELT LEUTE IN STEAMPUNK-UMGEBUNG"

Spock-Uhura was survivable, but I agree that they portrayed it wrong!

Alright, after his home planet was (SPOILIED CAKE HERE, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN FILM) destroyed, his gaurd was a touch down, but afterwards, wouldn't Spock want to be more Vulcan?
And all that making out on the launch pad would be seen as disgusting towards anybody brought up in logical Vulcan culture.

I honestly thought it would be Kirk-Uhura?

RANTRANTRANT.
D`8

Good movie.

I have only watched a season or so of TOS, but I thought it funny that Spock was so human in the beginning. @_@ TOS makes it look like he was hardcore Vulcan and only hesitantly shows human traits within the course of the show.
I hoped it would be nobody/Uhura because OMG THERE'S NOTHING ABOUT IT ON TOS.

But oh well. XD; JJ Abrams can laugh at our rantings now because it's an alternative timeline anyway as established in the movie, so whatevs. XD DAMN HIM.

Many fans in the 60s & 70s thought Uhura/Spock was a natural. Watch his attention to her on TOS. When she gets hurt or falls down or whatever, he's the one who picks her up, says "Are you alright Lt.?" etc. She's cool, calm and collected, fixes her own equipment when it breaks, and speaks a zillion intergalactic languages. The fact she's on the bridge of that ship means she's highly intelligent and an allround exceptional person. What's not to like?

Oh, I'm not arguing that Uhura isn't a kickass character, she very much is! XDD The TOS one anyway, I wish the movie one had a bit bigger role other than snogging Spock.
Well 8D; I've seen (most of) TOS and I guess it's just in the eye of the beholder, I personally never noticed anything.
